References are an integral part of the selection process. Please refer to the Chevening website for more information. If you are invited to interview, your designated referees will need to upload their letter of reference to the system. The window of time to do this will be approximately two weeks in length, so please stay in touch with your referees throughout the process.

At this time you only need to provide the details of two referees including full name, job title, organisation where they are employed, email address, and capacity in which known. If invited to interview, your referees will be sent a link to complete the reference via the online application system.

Please select your referees carefully; they should be people who can comment on your general suitability to receive a Chevening Award. Referees should be known to you, either in an academic or professional capacity. They should not be a relative or close personal friend.

References must be:

Written in English. Your application will not be considered for a Chevening Award if your references are not written in English.

Provided via the online application system.

You should ask your referees to visit the references page of the Chevening website for details about what information they should include in their reference.

Should you need to change the details of a referee at a later point, you will be able to log back in and change the details.
